Encyclia cordigera is an epiphytic orchid native to tropical America, known for its fragrant flowers, which are typically purple and pink in color. It grows on trees in warm, seasonally dry forests, where it thrives in well-lit environments. Its remarkable variability in flower shape, color, and size reflects the species’ plasticity and has given rise to a wide variety of forms in cultivation. Its intense and complex fragrance is one of its most distinctive features.

Care
It prefers plenty of light, including a few hours of gentle sunlight, and good air circulation. Water generously during active growth and allow the potting mix to dry out almost completely before the next watering; during the dormant period, reduce the frequency. Use a well-aerated, fast-draining potting mix, such as medium- to coarse-grained bark. Maintain a humidity level of approximately 50–70% and fertilize every 2–3 weeks during the growing season with a diluted, balanced orchid fertilizer.
