Prosthechea chacaoensis is an epiphytic orchid native to the tropical regions of the Americas, where it grows on trees in warm, humid environments. It develops compact pseudobulbs and inflorescences with flowers in shades of green, cream, and purple; its most notable characteristic is its sweet, vanilla-like fragrance. As a member of epiphytic communities, it contributes to the plant diversity of tropical forests and the complex ecological relationships that develop there.
Care
Care
This orchid thrives in environments with bright, filtered light and good air circulation; avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. It prefers moderate to warm temperatures, between 16 and 30 °C, and relative humidity levels of 50 to 80%. Water when the growing medium is nearly dry, maintaining moderate moisture during active growth and reducing watering during the winter.
Use a well-aerated, well-draining growing medium composed of pine bark, charcoal, and perlite, or grow it mounted if you have high ambient humidity. Fertilize every 2 to 3 weeks with a balanced, low-concentration orchid fertilizer during the growing season.
