Stachytarpheta jamaicensis is a perennial herb or creeping subshrub belonging to the Verbenaceae family, widely distributed in the tropical regions of America and naturalized in numerous warm areas of the world. It grows spontaneously in meadows, roadsides, gardens, disturbed land, and other open areas with good sun exposure. It is characterized by its slender flower spikes that produce small bluish-purple flowers successively for much of the year, especially from spring to autumn. It generally reaches between 30 and 80 cm in height, although it can spread laterally, forming dense ground cover. Thanks to its abundant nectar production, it is a valuable food source for butterflies, native bees, and other pollinating insects, making it an excellent choice for gardens aimed at biodiversity conservation.

Care
Stachytarpheta jamaicensis thrives in light, fertile, well-drained substrates, although it tolerates a wide variety of soils once established. It requires moderate watering, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between applications; during warm periods, two or three waterings per week are usually sufficient, reducing the frequency during cool or rainy periods. To promote vigorous growth and continuous flowering, it is recommended to apply a balanced fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season.
It prefers full sun exposure, although it can grow in bright semi-shade with slightly less abundant flowering. Its ideal temperature range is between 20 and 35 °C, and it has low frost tolerance. It adapts well to medium to high humidity environments typical of tropical and subtropical climates, showing good resistance to heat and brief periods of drought when well established.
