Popularly known as the "bat flower," it is a tropical species native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia, distributed in regions of Thailand, Malaysia, China, and Vietnam. It stands out for its extraordinary dark purple to black inflorescences, accompanied by long filiform bracts that resemble a bat's whiskers. Its flowering occurs mainly during spring and summer, although in favorable conditions it can produce flowers at different times of the year. When mature, it reaches between 60 and 120 cm in height, forming clusters of large, glossy green leaves.

This species thrives in warm environments, with temperatures between 18 and 30 °C, high ambient humidity (above 60%), and bright indirect light, avoiding direct sun exposure that can damage its leaves. Keep the substrate uniformly moist, watering frequently without causing waterlogging; during warmer months, it may require several waterings per week, adjusting frequency based on ambient humidity and the growing medium's drainage. Use a substrate rich in organic matter, light, and well-drained, such as a mixture of peat, coir, fine bark, and perlite. Fertilize every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength. A humid, stable environment protected from cold drafts will promote the development of its lush foliage and the production of its stunning inflorescences.
