Vanilla planifolia is a climbing orchid native to Mexico and Central America, adapted to humid tropical forests. Its stems cling to trees with aerial roots and produce short-lived flowers that, after successful pollination, give rise to the well-known aromatic pods. In addition to its cultural and agricultural importance, it is part of the epiphytic communities of tropical forests, where it contributes to plant diversity and maintains a close relationship with its pollinators.
Care
Care
It requires a warm, humid environment with good air circulation. It prefers abundant, filtered light, avoiding intense direct sun. Watering should be regular, allowing the substrate to dry slightly on the surface before watering again. An organic, airy, well-draining substrate is recommended, composed mainly of bark, plant fiber, and organic matter. Maintain ambient humidity at 70–90% and fertilize every 2–3 weeks during active growth with a balanced fertilizer, always diluted.
