The Verbenaceae family comprises approximately 30 genera and over 800 species of herbs, shrubs, and small trees distributed mainly in tropical and subtropical regions. Its members are characterized by generally showy, nectar-rich flowers, which gives them great ecological importance by serving as a food source for butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Among its most representative genera are Stachytarpheta, Verbena, Lantana, Duranta, and Aloysia, widely recognized for their ornamental and ecological value. In addition, various species in this family have traditional medicinal and aromatic uses, thanks to the presence of bioactive compounds that have been utilized by different cultures for the preparation of infusions, herbal remedies, and natural products.
